I have been a member of PRIDE! since my freshman year. Over the course of last year and this year, I have become more involved within the organization. I would like to see this organization reach its potential, and get back to being the second largest school organization. PRIDE! is the only organization that I actively participate in. This is mainly due to the fact that I am a lesbian; however, I still think that the issues in the GLBTQ community are important factors. I believe that if everyone that believes in equality, gay or straight, can make a difference in our community.

April joined PRIDE! in 2006 when she first came to UNCG. She was on a mission to find people she could connect with on campus, whether they were bisexual like her or just thought about the world along the same lines as she did. Luckily, she found many friends and confidants within this organization. April also found the chance to make a difference by becoming part of the Executive Board of PRIDE!. She does not want to be known as a sob story for the many things she has been through, but rather as a symbol for others that none of those things have to keep you down. "You can get past all the bad and rise above the negative," she says, "if you have the drive and determination to do so. And a little humor never hurt either."

I am a sophomore here at UNCG. I have been a part of PRIDE! as a general body member shortly after the beginning of my first semester here at UNCG as a freshmen. I have joined the Executive Board of PRIDE! recently, after wanting to for some time, as one of the Outreach Coordinators. I have wanted to join the Board in order to have an active role in the LGBT community. I also would like to see and have a hand in PRIDE! becoming a strong presence in the LGBT community as well as other communities. I would also love to see us as a group bringing in more of our community here on-campus and become a stronger family group. I would also like us as a group to become a strong presence in organizations, such as Triad Health Project, places we can volunteer and be seen as a useful contributor to the outside community of UNCG PRIDE!. I look forward to bringing in diversity and a larger group and having more things for us to do as a group. With our current leaders on the Board, it seems as if we will have a very productive year.
Faculty Advisor Jeffrey Collis

As with all UNCG-affiliated student organizations, UNCG PRIDE! must have at least one faculty advisor. Our advisors help us communicate with the University Administration, plan events and activities, offer advice and keep the group on track and in focus.
